My favorite sitcom of all time is "Community", hands down. Nothing else even comes close. I connected with the characters so much that they felt like friends at a time when I had none. And the reason I gave the show a chance at all was because I recognized Joel from "The Soup". His cynical tone hit just right for me, and carried over into "Community" perfectly.

Coincidentally I was just starting out as a paparazzo and red carpet photographer right around the same time. So I took every opportunity that presented itself to cover events and/or tips involving the cast. Eventually most of them recognized my face whenever we crossed paths, which was a lot.

Joel especially always gave me a few minutes of his time for a quick interview, even if he never quite gave me a straight answer, instead ad-libbing a joke, often at his own expense, or mine. I always felt like I was the luckiest "Community" fan in the world.

The first time I saw him at a red carpet event was just about six weeks after the show started, and it had already proven to be my favorite show of the time. This was at the TV Guide Hot List Party, Nov 10, 2009. He did give me normal smiling shots, but also showed incredulity at my enthusiasm. He seemed surprised I knew who he was and that I was a fan of the show.
