 Happy Birthday Governator Schwarzenegger!

It feels like fiction now, but it was so surreal to start my career as an event photographer and paparazzo in Los Angeles in the time when the Terminator himself was our Governor. I saw him so often at LAX or shopping in Beverly Hills, it became weirdly normal. 

I once caught him exclusive buying a purse, most likely for his wife. About a year later, the news would break about his 1996 affair, so this might have been around the time when he admitted his betrayal to her.

It was quite a validating experience to spot a TWO TIME Academy Award winning actress crossing Rodeo Drive, and having her spot you and give you a HUGE and genuine smile.

Happy Birthday Kate Beckinsale! 

Wow. THREE Birthday Girls today!

Kate Beckinsale at the Los Angeles premiere of "Star Trek: Into the Darkness at the Dolby Threatre in Hollywood, CA.  14th May, 2013. 

Kate was always one of my favorite celebrities to catch around town. She was literally the first celebrity I was assigned to go follow from her house, which, believe it or not, she never seemed to mind. So she was a great celebrity for paparazzi training.

Plus she's simply sublimely stunning, and even more so in person, which is why I love these 3-D photos of her, because it's almost like she's standing right in front of you.

I love this shot of Kate out shopping with her family. 

 

This was my favorite set from LAX, partially because Kate was looking extra casually beautiful that day. But also because I got these shots in a restricted area of LAX where technically I was not allowed, but paps like me who work the airport a lot know which boundaries can be breached without actually getting in trouble, and this was a soft enforcement zone. So I was able to a bunch of extra shots all the way down this narrow walkway before we reached the podium-of-no-return, and even got a nice smile from Kate. 

 

This one (above) doesn't work quite as well, because these shots were taken  a few seconds apart and several things don't match up right. But the 3-D effect still sorta works! 

This was the time Kate showed up at LAX wearing pink satin pajamas and carrying a blanket. But she always was happy to sign autographs and was always pleasant to everyone. She really never once seemed to be bothered by cameras or paparazzi.

The 3-D effect on the one above is a little weird, with the way she's tilting her head in one of the shots and several other elements in motion. But different parts of the photo link up when you tilt your head different ways.

Kate could always be counted on to show up at Joel Silver's annual Memorial Day party in Malibu.

Happy Birthday Dame Helen Mirren! 

Dame Helen Mirren was honored with a hand/footprint ceremony at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA. 3/28/11
 

It was cool to be there for the day Dame Helen Mirren was honored with a hand print ceremony, but does anyone else agree that it's weird the way she made the hand prints upside down, palms up, thumbs out? People go there to put their hands into the hand prints, which now requires everyone to twist their arms the same way to match her pose. I'm pretty sure everyone else does fingers up, thumbs in. Am I wrong?

Dame Helen Mirren was also super nice when spotted in the wild. She showed up at LAX in leather pants, pushing her own suitcases without any help from celebrity greeters, which is almost unheard of behavior for celebrities. 

South Park 15th Anniversary Party 3-D Photos

It seems like a good time to celebrate "South Park". I was lucky enough to cover the red carpet for the 15th Anniversary Party, which was quite a unique event, because it was held at Seth McFarlane's home way up in the hills of Santa Monica. Photographers with credentials and guests parked at the bottom of the hill, and were brought up to the property in shuttle busses.

 I was thrilled to get shots of some rock gods from my youth, Duran Duran (L-R John Taylor, Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, and Roger Taylor), and Stewart Copeland of The Police.

Most of the party guests declined to walk the red carpet, but a few did, including Jon Hamm and Eli Roth.
