This is one of my all time favorite sets that I was so proud to have captured. Lady Gaga is one of those special celebrities who do things like this seemingly expressly for the benefit of paparazzi. She easily could have had the car pull up to the stairs so that there wouldn't be much of a shot, but instead she did the full walk and posed for the cameras and took a few selfies with fans before she got in the car. 

In the car, I asked her to please remove the sunglasses for a second, and she was about to comply, but one of her little monsters shouted no, so she changed her mind and did as her monster said. Still made a great shot.

These were my first photos of Justin Bieber, taken just a week after the release of his first full album.

The first thing I learned as a paparazzo was that there are plenty of times that celebrities don't mind when paparazzi are around, and it was always a great feeling when they would smile or wave, legitimizing the "stalking" type behavior we get justifiable hate for.

On this particular day I was checking the Four Seasons Hotel because there were some autograph seekers lurking on the curb, which meant someone was inside.

Soon Robert Downey Jr came out, sporting a white blazer and a purple tee shirt with a Shazam lightning bolt on it, which was ironic because of course Shazam used to be known as Captain Marvel before the character was acquired by DC Comics.

Robert was in a great mood that day because, little did I know at the time, he was gearing up to begin filming 'Iron Man 2' just 3 days after these photos were taken. So when you think about the timing, it was the exact point when the MCU began to take shape after the success of the first film. Robert was just starting to enjoy his triumphant comeback, which would only continue to snowball for years and to this day. But back then, we didn't know if it was just a fluke, or was this Marvel Cinematic Universe going to turn into something.

Another notable detail from that day, I also saw Terrence Howard leaving the hotel around the same time. It was reported that Don Cheadle only had a few hours to decide to take on the role replacing Howard when filming began this same week, so I've always wondered if Howard was still on the project when that meeting happened? Or perhaps was that the day he was dropped from the film? That's just my speculation of course.

But just look at how happy Robert seems at this moment. I'll never forget it.

Olivia was always my favorite celebrity to photograph, because of her appreciation of nerd culture and her sense of humor, mixed with stunning beauty. A truly rare combo. I covered quite a few of her events promoting and protesting with PETA, and her book release. I was the sole photographer at a couple of her fan meet ups. She was always extremely kind and approachable, remembered me, and was supportive of my animation work. She would always be happy to see me on the streets, at LAX, or wave to me in the crowd of photogs covering a red carpet event, where she always give my lens special attention.

3-D Anne Hathaway & Christan Bale Filming "Dark Knight Rises"

This was one of my craziest days in my early career as a paparazzo. Christopher Nolan was filming the third installment of his Batman franchise in downtown Los Angeles. In a rare move, the streets and sidewalks where the crew was filming were not completely blocked off. They would only lock down during the take when cameras were ready to roll. There were several paps around, endlessly circling the block, hoping to get lucky. But the crew was watching out for paps before they would call "action" and would block those they saw.

That wasn't working out for me, so I had to switch strategies.

The local businesses were open, so I went into the jewelry shop across the street from where they were filming and bribed the owner to let me sit behind the counter like I was working there... and for just $10, he let me do it for like an hour. I would keep the camera hidden until they would lock down the set, at which point all of the crew were scanning the sidewalks, looking for paps, but they never thought to look behind them and see me shooting!

I got great shots of Anne Hathaway, in character as Selina Kyle, exiting her apartment and getting into a cab. Then I noticed Christan Bale, (dressed as Bruce Wayne) and it looked like he spotted me, but either he didn't see me with the sun in his eyes and me in the shade of the store just like the one seen behind him in the photo, or maybe he didn't mind and didn't rat me out to the crew.

 

I have more photos from the location set of "The Dark Knight Rises", so I'll have to check to see if I have any more 3D shots of the Batwing or Christan Bale and Anne Hathaway in their hero costumes. Fingers crossed.  

 

I've only partially completed combing through my old archive to mine for 3D shots, and I've got over 1000 3D photos to process and post, so there's lots more to come.

I'm Damon, AKA Diabolik, a celebrity photographer on red carpets and in the streets of Hollywood and beaches of Malibu since 2009. That's me with @parishilton, and I've got a million stories to share.
 
For over a decade, I amassed an enormous archive of thousands of 3D celebrity photos, which I am now posting online for the first time, with the goal of eventually releasing a book of my best 3D photos. These are legit 3D photos, not made with AI nor Photoshop tricks. These were made by using a special method that I call "4D photography". It's a kind of magic!
